I'm just starting to play volleyball and I need to know what they look for when you tryout for the team. What will help me with improving my skills?

  1. You need to know how to serve. Practice against a brick wall. Also you need to bump the ball without making it fly across the room.

Dont worry middle school sports arent that bad and competitive.

  2. getting passes to target each time.

    cross court attacks

    good at digging

    back-row attacks

    floater or topspin serve.

calling the ball every single time.

talking is what every coach loves to see.

  3. serving (overhand more than underhand), bumping, rotation, setting, spiking, saving the ball from the net.

equipment: knee pads, water bottle, tennis shoes, gym clothes

  4. You need to serve, underhand, then work your way up to overhand, bump, pass, set, and you need to move around the floor easily and swiftly. And  alway try your best at practice.

  5. not much. haha.

  6. I would have to agree with the "haha" girl, as there is not much you "need to know" before going to middle school girl's volleyball. It would be nicer if you have watched some games, but it is also okay if you have never touched volleyball and never watched any game.

You want to be serious, doing whatever the coach wants you to do. Give your heart to the game, show dedication to your team, do all the chores and minor stuff (like help setting up the net, collecting balls), and talk to the coach after each practice to see whether there is anything you need to improve (from the coach's stand point).

  7. You have to have heart! You should really want to be there. If you can be the first out of the locker room and start to warm up and stretch or help set-up the nets. Commitment is a big thing, and you always have to be pushing yourself to do better. Coaches usually look first at attitude(is she having fun? is she cheering on teammates? is she not getting down on herself when she messes up? is she trying hard?) then they look at your skills(don't worry too much about these if your just starting, coaches will know-but be ready to show improvement) Improving your skills will come eventually. Don't worry if you don't get them at first, it takes time. Listen to your coaches and do what they say(another thing they look for at tryouts is coachability- will she do what I tell her or roll her eyes and walk away?) The more you can get your hands on a ball though the better. Even if it's in gym class or hitting/passing/setting against a wall. THE BIGGEST THING IS TO HAVE FUN!! :)  especially in middle school! Just smile and have a lot of fun and all the other stuff should fall into place. Good luck!

  8. umm you need to know how to serve the ball over the net (preferably overhand if you can) umm how to pass high to the setter position.  also you need to know what position you want to play and try and work on that.  if you want to be a hitter you need to know when to jump and know the approach. umm it depends on what position you want.  tell me what you want to play and i  can help you more. but you really dont need to know that much if you want to make a middle school team.  you may not make the first team the first year but you will probbly make one of the teams.

  9. okayy, so for middle school, you have to be able to:

    pass to a 'target'

    set to a hitting zone

hit it over the net aggressively

serve it over the net, (nott underhand)

anddd thats about it. msg. me or something if you need help//tips on improving any of those things.

  10. they look for people who stand out and they look for people who can get their serves over

my tip to you: work on your serves in the summer and go to some summer camps.

  11. work on returning the ball into a specific area, have good aim, get a decent serve, better if you do it over hand, but if u cant, do it under hand, and make sure you go into the propper stance that they tell you to, dont feel stupid doing it. this next part is very important, try your hardest, and if u r having trouble, deffinately ask 4 help, it shows that u r trying and are commited to doing ur best. good luck on making the team.
