  1. I see you got quite a few answers, too bad most of them are incorrect.

There are a few companies that sell the parts you will need and they have the correct answers for you as every state has different requirements. No two states are alike.

Baja Designs is the best known and they HAVE all the info you will need as this is their business. and you can try this company that I found in the back of Cycle News.... www.joeracerproducts.com ... 209-293-3206.

They also claim to be able to turn an MX bike in to a street legal bike in all 50 states.

And yes, I have turned a MX bike with no relationship to any street version to a Street legal bike and the bike was never designed to be a street bike at any time in it's life. It can be done, it just depends on how tough your state is and if you are willing to jump through the proper hoops.

    Good luck.

BTW, if nothing else, get your motorcycle insured and carry the card with you at all times. Lack of insurance is a bigger fine then not have a registered motorcycle.

  2. headlights, turn signals, brake light, license plate, and a licensed rider

  3. In most states, if a motorcycle comes from the factory designated as "Off Road Use Only", it can not be made street legal.  Contact your local DMV and ask if it is even possible to make an off road bike street legal before you invest the time and money.  You wouldn't want to spend a couple hundred dollars on parts for your bike only to find out that the DMV will not issue a plate for it.

Even if you can make the bike street legal in your state, you may  find the alterations will cost more than what it is worth.

Sell the bike and use the money from the sale to purchase a dual sport bike that will work both on and off road.

  4. I live in NY, and the requirements are, headlight, turn signals front & rear (fronts must also be running lights), horn, rear brake light, license plate bracket & license plate light

  5. Not to Nit-Pick, but I have registered a bike in NJ *without* turn signals.  The DMV specifically told me "if it has them they must work".  If it doesn't have them, thats ok too...

  6. You have to make it meet all Federal and State and EPA requirements and just hanging  lights on it will not quite do it. There are specifications on  how bright they have to be at what distance they need to be seen. Plus many many other little details.

  7. as far as I remember, in order to make any bike street legal, first, the manufacturer had to offer that bike in a street version (enduro type for on and off road) and if it was only offered as an offroad version you cannot get it regestered fro the street. If it was offered, then you need brake lights, turn signals, head light, full rear fender, front fender, street legal tires and street legal exhaust, kick stand and any other items required by your state. By the time you add the cost of all that up, and figure out all the hoops you have to jump thru to get it inspected,  you are better off selling your dirt bike and buying agood enduro type bike anyway.
