  1. Wow, that is really general.

First of all you need money- either your own money, investor money or loan money.

Next you need licenses. You need a city and/or county license just to do any business. What additional licenses or registrations you need depend on your type of business. Go to your states website and see if there are agencies that regulate the type of business you want to start. If so, you probably need to be registered with them.

If you plan to employ workers, you will need a federal employer ID number, which you can get from irs.gov

You need to obtain a properly zoned location or verify that you can work from home with your county zoning office.

  2. What do you need to open your own business?  That depends on what type of business your going to open up.  If it's a traditional business, then you first need to figure out what industry you want to market. office shopping for leasing/renting, phone, computer, fax, furniture etc. Get your business license, purchase the products that you would be selling, set up Grand opening adds and banners etc etc etc.

If it's a home based business, then you pretty much have everything in your home that you would need, phone, computer, maybe pick up a fax machine.  Find an industry that you want to market and collaborate with a company in that industry.  You have the same income opportunity as the traditional businesses do, without all the over head expenses.

  3. Sure the Tax Service Industry is a recession proof  business ...check Target Tax Preparation if you're serious let me know.....

  4. Well, your first step should be to figure out what products/services are in demand in your area.

Next, I would I would find out just how, and if I am able to supply that demand.

Finally, if I am theoretically able to do so, I must now figure out how to match those people demanding the product/service, with my product/service.

That is the super simple version of it all, keep in mind you have liabilities, taxes, and other such things to worry about as well.
