What do i need to start doing if i want to be an archaeologist?

Study the sciences, biology, chemistry and mathematics, especially statistics. Contact the instutions you are likely to attend and find out what they suggest.

In high school, if you're school has anthropology or some other world/culture studies take that. Take your basic sciences, biology, chemistry and maths and take history, English and get started on learning a second language if you like.

I'm not sure what country you're in, so when you look for colleges, look for colleges that offer some pratical work in archeology and the possibility of focusing on archeology. You'll probably have to do some courses in biological and cultural anthro, but it should be interesting.

Most people when they get to uni/college say "anthrowhatology?" so you're up on the rest ;)

Take some anthropology classes if you are interested in human archeology.  This is the study of cultures.  So when you go on a dig you have some insight as to how ancient cultures and societies lived so you know what signs to look for.

In college, they offer Internships / trips for college credit to go on digs.

I live in Chicagoland and the Field Museum is one of the best in the world.  If there is a museum by you, contact the curator and get  his / her advice.  It would be good to get some insights as well as starting to establish a relationship with influential people in the industry.

No I'm not an archaeologist, but I did take anthropology and I regret not pursuing it further as I really liked it.  I had a chance to go on a dig on an Indian Reservation and I decided to work that summer instead.
