I am going to waterproof a deck what do i get and is it hard to do?

There are a number of products out there and it can get very confusing.  Consumer Reports did a report on what they found to be the best water-proofing stain or paint.

You could also go to your local paint store and pick their brains.  They could recommend the best product for your situation.

As a painter since the 1970's I can say that Thompsons Waterseal is one of the worst products on the market. Go to Home Depot or Lowe's. Home Depot has several good products made by Behr. Lowe's has similar products.  Use a top quality product and follow the directions.  

BTW  I have been called to redo many decks and fences that people, against my recommendation, used Thompsons on.

Get a garden sprayer, the large kind that you pump up, and fill it up with Thompson waterseal, then all you have to do is spray it on, up, under and any where else you need to go. I use to work for a low income help program that help people out. Works great, just remember to rinse it out after your done. Use some diesel fuel to rinse it out with, it keeps the rubber seals from drying out.
