What do i say to my boss?

I work at a preschool and my boss is driving me crazy! She spends lots of money on unnecessary things, but each time that I ask her for anything she says that she doesn't have the budget for it.

Also, she won't give me paid holidays and only pays me 10 an hour (despite the fact that I have a BA in primary education). So besides getting another job (which I plan to do if I don't get respect), how can I get her to be more generous to me?

  1. GO OVER HER HEAD & TELL HER BOSS, THAT SHE IS WASTING MONEY & NOT GIVING YOU YOUR 'FAIR SHARE' OF THE TAKING.

  2. Some people are like that, but I think by law she has to pay you for holidays.  I would check into that if I were you.  You must have documentation.  Write down every time that happens.

  3. you need to look up Citzens Advice Bureau  as they will have info on website about holiday pay, hourly rate etc. If she is breaking the law then you wil need to tell her so but it will depend on how many hours a week and how many weeks a year you work.

£10 an hour do you mean? Thats actualy a very good wage in a preschool situation. The usually wage for degree level is up to £7!!! If you want higher pay and better job you may want to look into Early Years Professional training.

As for the budgetting unfortunately if she's the boss and incharge of finance then there's nothing you can really do! It's annoying I know!!! If there is something in particular you need then you could write it down with details of why it would be beneficial, how much it is and maybe even suggest that you could fundraise for it? We do a cake sale once a term for equipment.

  4. just resign or be kind to her until you will be close to each other then talk to her what she did is wrong and if you are fired your boss is truly not generous

  5. if you are aking for legitimate curicullum supplies then she should be furnishing them for you.  if they are just a 'wish list' items then that's to her discretion.  sometimes as a director you are required to spend a certain percentage on certain line items and you have to prove you spent it on those exact items.  for example:  10% on art supplies, 6 % of food, 15 % on outdoor items, etc.  sometimes it's difficult to give every teacher what they want as every teacher is asking for stuff.

i always suggested to my teachers that they get together with their lesson plans and write down what was required of each plan.  then i could buy in bulk and save money and the budget would go farther.  example:  if everyone needs particular colors of construction paper, i could buy only those colors that week and they could share the large cheaper package instead of buying smaller, more expensive packages for each room.  bottles of glue can be refilled from the gallon jug, you get the idea.  teachers should never have to buy required supplies.

when i had extra money i would give so much to each room to spend.  then they could purchase what they wanted off their 'wish list'.  but once it was gone, it was gone until more surplus money became available.

be proactive in your supply list.  don't wait until the week of the lesson.  plan ahead with the other staff.

as for the holiday pay.  i'd check with your hr department if you have one or ask the area director (if there is one).  if all other teachers are paid for holiday pay and you are the same status, i would think she'd have to pay you also.

  6. I have been involved with 3 Preschools, both in employment and on the Advisory Board.  Your problems are typical.  At each school, I experienced the same things you are talking about.  Another common problem is that the director frequently leaves the building for errands (either the schools or her own) during the school day, leaving any problems for the teachers to solve.

I feel the same way you do about supply purchases.  At my school, we have to fight for construction paper in all the colors.  The director thinks she can save money by only getting "seasonal" colors of paper.  In the Spring, she buys lavender and pink.  If you want your class to make a brown bunny rabbit, you're out of luck.

Your pay is a little on the low side, but not by much.  Preschools can't afford decent pay or benefits because they can only charge so much for tuition without making the parents upset.  They also have to stay in line according to what the competition is charging.  You could probably ask for $12/hour and get it, if you site your education and she doesn't have to pay you any benefits.  At the Preschool I am at now, Teachers make $12/hr. and Aides make $10.  It is absolutely ridiculous the pay that Preschool teachers get.

If you want to make more money teaching preschool, try going to a school district that has a Preschool program.  They get their money from the state, and they also write for grants, so they can pay more.  Sometimes school district preschools are only for kids who have learning issues, so the school can get a head start (so to speak) on them with help and programs, etc.

What directors really want, is to be able to walk around with parents on a tour and brag about the classrooms.  With you, the director can point to your 4-year degree as a huge asset.  Keep your room in tip top shape- neat, welcoming, and organized, and the director will notice that, too.

Best of luck to you in your search.  If all does not go well where you are, you should have no trouble finding a job somewhere else with your degree.

  7. You can usually ask for a raise. But check out other daycares if you don't feel like she is doing you right. It looks like she does it if she feels like it is important to her.

  8. what you do is give her a notice say that the school is on a "Budget" but if she complains that she doesn't have the time tell her then how do you have the time to spend all of our money? we save money that is the Boards money for the school and your spending that and that's Fraud and you can get up to 4-8 years in prison with a 50,000$ Bail

    in in 8th grade

i am trying to show the world that just cause were teens we aren't stupid i have a great status in school 3.5 GPA i am very talented and bright so dont say OH he doesnt know anything just because he is in 8th grade we are really smart

  9. tell her how you feel , and if she doesn't resopnd - give her your notice and leave. you shouldn't have to put up with it. And - if you are well qualified - you should be able to get a good job quickly.

    good luck! :)

  10. I would ask questions to her boss and tell her boss how your feeling. It nothing happens for the better, I would find another job. I couldnt work anywhere where my boss didnt give me the respect I gave her. Good Luck!
