I want to add a layer of sealant on my basement walls... They are slowly crumbling in certain spots and i can see rust stains etc. I have not noticed any water from them, but I do have a bad centipede problem and it is ugly. I am trying to slowly fix up my basement. What kind of sealant do I use? And...once I put it on, do I then or CAN I then, paint over it?? Dont know much about handyman stuff.

  1. Buy the sealer called Dry-Lock which keeps water and moisture out and then you can paint over it once it's dry. Find it at Home Depot and paint stores. Cost about $20.00 a gal.

  2. look here

  3. It sounds like you have some moisture in the basement, the first thing to do would be to buy a dehumidifier and run it constantly.  Buy one that you can hook a hose to and run to the drain so you don't have to empty it constantly.  Let it run for a while and see if your dampness goes away.  If not you may have a problem with moisture wicking through your walls and would be best served by contracting with a professional water proofing company.

If the air dries out down there, you can use a product like "UGL Drylock" and then paint over it.  Best of Luck!
