  1. food coloring.

no, im joking. just keep it healthy (but some plant food, maybe, and constantly water it.)

  2. Spray paint it green.

  3. water it. unless you have animals. pet urine kills grass, so that may be it.

  4. A good granular fertilizer with weed killer is what I use. (Twice a year in February and October here in Central Florida for St. Augustine grass.)

  5. Because you don't refer to the lawn as the "back-yard" I am going to assume that you are not in America. The fact that you do not cut the lawn short could be the problem. A lawn should be short cut, I cut mine to about 1". If you decide to do this then after the first short cut the grass will look terrible, it will look dead, but then it will soon begin to green up again. Water in a good high nitrogen compound fertiliser, and the following week apply a weed killer. From September raise the height of the cut to 2" to prevent moss from growing. Next May/June cut low again.

  6. You may have a fungus problem, or a pH problem.  First of all about watering: you do not need to water every day 2 times a day.  This promotes fungus, lawn pests, and other diseases.  I live in So. Cal. where it is frequently over 100 degrees, and I water 3 days per week.  Water deeply.  Watch your sprinklers to see how long it takes before water is sheeting off of your lawn, probably, about 4min but it verys depending on type of sprinklers, and soil condition.  Then after you have figured out your water threshold, set your timer to water 3-4 times in the morning about 1 and a half hours apart between watering times, start at midnight, for the summer anyways.  Cut back your watering days to 3 times per week.  This will get rid of fungus, promote deep rooting of your lawn, and eliminate lawn pest environments.  Secondly about pH.  Your lawn cannot uptake fertilizer like it should in alkaline soils.  Lawn pH should be between 5.8 and 6.5, which is slightley acidic.  You can buy a cheap test kit at Ace hardware and do it yourself.  If you find the soil to be heavily alkaline, you may need to adjust the pH by using pellitized sulfur.  Make sure to use the measured ammount, and apply evenley.  Fertilize regularly, every 6 weeks.  These are some websites that will help. http://soil.gsfc.nasa.gov/soil_pH/plant_...
