  1. Try a skort. That way both things are satified.

  2. dear if they haven't told you what to wear, then go in something yo feel fine in.  I don't think on your first lessen you will be doing splits or jumps.  Jeans will be fine, and a loose fitting blouse.

Also take along a second set of close in a bag.  two good reasons.  your may slip a few times and get wet or cold or both and you may tear something and needing a Chance is planning for what is expecting to happen.

Enjoy your time as a youth, you will grow up and remember it all, so fill it up with good things and fun experiences like skating!

  3. Why won't you mom let you wear a skirt?  I always wore my simple black skirt with a t-shirt and jacket.

If you can't wear a skirt, wear thin black track pants with your skate leggings underneath.  Make sure to wear layers on your upper body so you can shed them as you skate and warm up.

I never wear jeans...too restrictive and scratchy, not to mention never warm enough!!

And have a chat with your mom...all skaters wear a nice skirt now and then.  It helps you move and gets you in the spirit...at least does for me!

  4. i go to skating in my jeans but i recomend wearing sweat pants

  5. smart casual

  6. sweatpants are comfy. and thin socks, too.

  7. Leotard and tights

  8. wear something confortable. if your a beginner i reccomend sweatpants, & a sweatshirt, deffinatly gloves. as you become more advanced, people at my rink wear ice skating outfits, with a sweatshirt, or a thick shirt over it. & tights that go over the boot, or in the boot.

  9. warm up pants

    like adidas break-away pants.

  10. Gloves, for sure.  Your hands will freeze easily - gloves are a must!

Most importantly would be to wear something warm and something you can move around in.

For warmth, dress in layers - like a long sleeve shirt with a light jacket or sweater over it - then if it gets too warm (as you may work up a sweat in class), you can take the outer layer off.  Your bottoms can be anything stretchy that you can bend down comfortably in . . . if they are pants, they should be long.  You don't want to wear anything too tight that would restrict your movement . . . or anything too loose that your blade could get caught on.

If you were thinking of a street skirt, I wouldn't recommend it - and that goes for street tights alone or bare legs!!  You have to think of the skirt lifting, or when you fall - if you know what I mean.  Skating skirts/dresses are literally leotards with an attached skirt - it's made for "the occasion" - same with leotards with dance skirts.  Skating tights are also thick - lots warmer than sheer street tights.

Generally, I have found that most people tend to NOT wear skating outfits with their first lessons . . . many wear street clothes (and probably do not know exactly what to wear either).  The first few lessons you don't skate around too hard . . . so although jeans aren't generally recommended, stretchy jeans may be fine for the first couple classes.  As you continue to skate, you'll begin to feel what skating attire would best suit you . . . and you'll observe what the skaters in the next levels are wearing to give you ideas.

If you do opt for the stretchy jeans, you may want to bring another set of pants with you - just in case.  When they get wet - they stay wet and keep you cold!!  I always kept an extra set of clothes in my bag anyway.

Good luck with your lessons - welcome to skating :)   !!

  11. Don't wear jeans. When Jeans get wet from the ice its terribly uncomfortable and just hard to skate. Try wearing a lycra like material tha will stretch and stay close to your body. Most skaters don't really weat skirts anymore anyway so you won't be the only one not in a skirt. I can't tell you the last time I wore a skirt while practicing. Anyway, good luck on your first lesson!

  12. if she wont let you wear a skirt you should wear pants that are made for iceskatings.

  13. Don't worry about everybody being is skirts/skating dresses. Most people will be beginners like you, and will be just wearing pants, jacket and a shirt. Don't wear jeans, not only because you can't flex as well in them, but when jeans get wet from falling on the ice they get really cold and hold a fair amount of water. I would suggest wearing knit exercise type pants, thin nylon or polyester socks, a t-shirt, and a jacket, along with some gloves. Good luck!

  14. dont worry, you dont have to wear a skirt to practice, its your decision. but if your mum doesnt want you to then maybe hold off on wearing a skirt for now, tho they are very comfy and can help make you feel more focused... many people practice in track suits too.

even if you can move in jeans i dont recomend wearing them. they get very cold and heavy if you slip over and you cant move as well as you could in other things. my rink wont let you into figure sessions if you're wearing jeans! :P

also your coach needs to be able to see what your legs are doing and if they are in the right positions. try wearing stretchy sweat pants, or maybe shorts and some skating tights. its up to you, just remember it has to be comfortable and easy to move in.

good luck and happy skating :)
