My grandfather was born in Ireland and moved to England when he was in his twenties.  He died 3 years ago at 97 and sounded as Irish as the day he arrived.  He was known to his wife (I love my 'Grandma'!), all his neighbours, his 14 children (yes, Irish Catholic), and his 37 grandchildren simply as Pop. Perfect.
