  1. in competitions judges are all different. some like lyrical, others musical theatre. just try your best, cuz that's all you can do, other than listening to your teachers when they correct you, and trying to fix your mistakes...

in auditions, you have to try to show your personality, while keeping the mood of the music you are dancing to, and doing the moves correctly. auditions are for showing what you can do, so in freestyle auditions sho your best moves in that specific type of dance, but as i said before, judges look for different things in a person...

good luck in competitions, and if you dont compete, good luck in auditions.

  2. Hi Victoria,

Your question is a little confusing.  The word "judges", in my mind, means the people that judge you at an audition.  But I'm not sure if you mean that or competition judges, or what?

Basically in an audition what judges want to see is impeccable technique.  You also need to add flair and artistry to the combinations.  That's how you get noticed; then once they're watching you, you have only a bit of time to display your technique.  So you pretty much need to be good at everything when you're auditioning, because the judges or directors can see you at any moment.

I'm not a competition dancer and never was, so I'm not particularly an expert.  I've seen a few competitions and know when someone does something wrong, even if it's small, because I'm a dancer.  I don't judge though, and I've never been a competition dancer, so I don't know.  What I do know is that it's similar to an audition -- you need to act professionally and if you make a mistake, don't draw attention to it and don't dwell on it -- somehow work it into your dance, find the beat and where you are, and start again.

The second part of your question is a bit confusing and I'm not entirely sure where the question is.  Are you asking about a video that kind of brushes on common mistakes that are easily overlooked by dancers, but not by judges?  There's no video for that.  That's what classes and teachers are for.  The best solution to that problem of small, easily-overlookable mistakes is a few private classes.

Good luck and I hope that helped.  Remember, always feel free to contact me for further details.  Keep dancing!♥

  3. First you have to have a clean techniques: just like brushing the ground when you do jete/leaps. You need to point your toes, lift your elbows (no chicken wings), focus out there - not inside, energy through out your fingers and feet, knees stretched out when needed, and foremost, you should look like you're enjoying yourself.

Secondly: You need to be in rhythm; showing off your musicality also.

And thirdly: You need to show clean styles -  choreography.

  4. It all depends. Just remember that they do not like sloppy moves. Just prctice doing the moves you know clean cut. And not sloppy!
