  1. if you have to take them to "fine dining" places you need to keep it simple no red sauces and or anything that can b flung at other patrons! kids are usually good with appitizers they probally wont finish it anyways

  2. Chicken or pasta !

  3. they eat whatever their parents are eating.  I just cut up whatever i'm eating.  They usually get desert and soup also.  And afterwards, if we have to, we'll go to McDonald's Drive thru.

  4. The numerous fine dining places I've worked don't have children's menu's, but the kitchen will usually try to make something to accomodate their little hands and finicky tastes.

A french restaurant I've worked at would make a small bowl of house made pasta with sauce, the mexican restaurant I'm at now will do things like quesadilla's. These places also had "late-night" and "café" menus that were a bit more geared toward the casual diner.

  5. what kind of 'tard takes their kid to a fine dining restaurant?

  6. Light menu

  7. Mac and Cheese always works. We eat out often. Almost every restaurant offers some form of it. They go for pizza number 2 and chicken tenders number 3. If you can't get any of these then you are not at a restaurant that wants you there with kids.

  8. pasta usually.

  9. It's a waste to take small kids to a really nice restaurant.  You are there for the food and atmosphere, and they are too young to appreciate either.  Take the kids somewhere they can run around, or at least where the other patrons expect noise.  I love kids.  I have 2 myself, but leave them at home and enjoy the meal yourselves or take them somewhere else.

  10. Kids should get pizza as they sit at home with a babysitter rather than taking them to "fine dining".  Fine dining and kids do not a good combination make lol!  I have 7 of them......I KNOW!!!  You will enjoy your dinner much more as will the other patrons of the restaurant.  Don't be mad either.  Its just the plain and simple truth.

  11. Something off of the kids menu.

  12. anything they are familiar with like burgers and hot dogs or shrimp. my son likes grilled shrimp not fried and desert.

  13. both are right -

my children have half the course or just a starter as a main course or they share a main course if theres two.

or some posh restaurants have a simple fresh childrens menu or other things they can offer - like roast chicken or pasta etc

  14. If you don't think your kids can eat off the menu (maybe sharing portions), then you shouldn't be taking them to that restaurant.

  15. Why on earth would you take your kids to a fine dining restaurant?

I'm not suggesting anything negative about your kids, but really young kids are not ready for fine dining.  They will be bored silly thus causing them to either act out or run around the restaurant doing whatever they please, annoying both staff and other diners.

You should really stick to fast food or casual/family dining at this stage in their lives.

BTW, some fine dining restaurants do NOT offer kids menus. Take the hint; if you must dine at a fine place, I suggest leaving the kids with Grandma or get a sitter so you and hubby/boyfriend can enjoy a nice evening out, just the two of you.

But to answer your question, kids will most likely ask for something probably not on the menu like hamburgers or mac & cheese.  And don't expect them to cut you a break on the check just because you decided to grace the restaurant with the presence of your rugrats.
