  1. The beetles are insectivores eating soft-bodied prey such as aphids, thrips, mites, or scale insects. There are many beetles commonly called Ladybirds with names that refer to the number of spots they have. The most common is the 7-spot ladybird.

A few of these beetles species eat a limited diet but many eat any soft insect prey they find. When aphids are scarce ladybirds may eat eggs of moths and other beetles. Then as fall approaches they may eat some pollen & nectar, for fat, for their winter hibernation.
