I've been watching the reality tv show in reference to the logging industry. I am curious as to what happens to the tree stump after the tree is cut down.

  1. When areas are logged around here the stumps are just left behind in the ground.  The loggers generally cut as close to the ground as possible, so the stump is small.

If you're logging an area to use it for something so you need the stumps gone, they are generally scraped out using a backhoe.  The stumps are then generally dumped out in the woods somewhere to rot.

  2. In Georgia, pine tree stumps were pulled and taken to a plant for extraction of rosin and turpentine.  We saw huge piles of stumps, at least three stories tall.

  3. Saffrone is right.  Hercules makes a lot of products from pine stumps.
