Question:

What do meringue cookies taste like?

I've never tried a meringue cookie but they seem pretty popular.

Are they good?

What flavor is the best?

Would you rather have a meringue cookie or a chocolate cookie?

What's unique in a meringue cookie (that's positive)?

On a scale of 1-10 how good is a meringue cookie (10 being best)?

Thanks :D

  1. Most have no fat, but do have sugar... low calorie though.  The texture varies from dry (in a good way) to a bit more chewy.

I've tried a lot of them since I have to be on a low fat diet, but the only one I really like (and I actually  eat them all the time--perfect to have as s meal finisher, but have to order from Miss Meringue since I can't reliably find them around any more) are the "Classic" Mint Chocolate Chip ones.  These are green and the regular size...Miss Meringue makes another mint meringue cookie that's small, but I don't like that one.

The ones you can make yourself in the oven can be good too... I've had peanut butter ones that are good.

  2. They are ok. They are unique to anything else. They are really light, like styrofoam. They are a lot of air, but whipped air so they are solid.

    They have unique shapes too.

I've had vanilla, and some limelike flavor. It's very subtle.

    Lots of sugar.

Id rather have a chocolate cookie.

    They also arent very filling.

If you are seeking a unique desert, try to find frozen fresh custard. Kicks ice cream in the jimmy....

  3. Meringue cookies are dry and crumbley. They have the consistacy of the inside of a malt ball. They aren't bad, but they are dry. They are very very light (airy) in texture. I prefer the lemon meringue cookies, but I would prefer a chocolate cookie if given the choice. Meringue cookies are different in that they are made with only beaten egg whites, and are fat free, and depending on the sweetener you use, can be very low calorie.  I personally like to put a couple vanilla flavored ones in my hot chocolate. If I was going to rate them, I'm say a 5. They aren't great, but they aren't the worst.
