Question:

What do mid 50 year old women like to do?

My mother is house/pet sitting for us while we are away on vacation and I am making a little booklet of grocery stores/things to do that she might like to check out.

She loves organic, natural foods and relaxing/outdoor things but I can only think of places to hike and she probably won't want to hike for 3 days straight!

  1. Probably the same things they liked to do when they were 20, or 30

Why should your interests change that much just by your age?

  2. A nice 21 year-old Latin Pool Boy who knows how to cook, give deep tissue massages, and has an eye for decorating.

  3. My mom is almost 60, and is busier than I am.  She rides bikes, walks, golfs, bowls, plays poker, shops, knits, reads, is a master gardener, takes art classes, etc.  Don't you know your mom?  Ask her if there is anything she would like to do, and get some information together for her.

  4. Drink, have s*x, watch movies, listen to music, fish, ride motorcycles, attend sporting events....same thing younger people like to do but with enough sense not to go to jail.  She's middle-aged and far from dead so forget the AARP c**p.  h**l, you have a computer at home, let her google her own interests.

  5. If she has a hobby, she can bring her own materials with her.

I'm sure she will appreciate your effort to make her comfortable.

  6. My mother is 53 and she likes working out at the gym, riding her bike, travelling, swimming, shopping, fashion, music, swinging (lol).

I know you are trying to get some ideas but every woman is different.

  7. That would depend upon the individual.  Don't worry, she will bring her own entertainment along.

  8. s*x with a 20-something stud. ;)  (Just kidding...though some 50-something mom's might like that.)

I agree that it depends on the person.  It's nice of you to want to help her out though.

I'm 51, and like all sorts of things really.  Sometimes it's nice just to stay in and relax at home, watch old movies or read magazines.  I like to cook and garden.  I also like whitewater rafting and jet skiing though...and really a 50-something is in our minds no different than we were when we were 20-something.  That's the odd thing about it.  You're right that hiking for 3 days straight might be hard on a mid-50's body...typically speaking.  It depends on what kind of shape she's in and what kind of physical activity she's used to.

Just give her your suggestions and then I'm sure she'll take them if she wants or leave them if she wants. Again, it's nice of you to care enough about her to want to help with that! :)  Have a save and fun vacation.

  9. Oh, for God's sake, she knows how to keep herself busy!  You're not your mother's keeper!

Doesn't she know the area you live in??
