Currently, I have 2 pairs of glasses.

1 pair is listed as 49-18-140

the second is listed as 49-19-135

Both are similar styles. I was looking at this online site and saw a really cool pair, that looks similar to the style of mine, and the size is listed as 46-20-135. Would the size of this pair of glasses

be similar?? What do the numbers mean?? would 46 be a much smaller pair than a 49??

Thanks

  1. The 46 would be quite a bit smaller than a 49.

That is 3 millimeters less on each lens width..so that is 6 mm, or 1/4 inch narrower overall. 1/4 inch may not seem like much, but that is a lot in frame sizes.

A 49 is young adult sizes, but a 46 is usually childrens sizes

  2. The measurement refers to, specifically:

    1) Size of the lens, in length (49 for both here)

    2) Bridge length (the part over the nose -- 18 and 19 here)

    3) Temple length (the full length of the part that slips over the ears, were it flat -- 140 and 135 here)

The importance of these measurements is in the fit of the glasses. A 46 may be fine for you... but it may also be so small that the glasses seem dwarfed by your facial features. Ultimately, I would suggest sticking to the 49 unless they seem overly long horizontally. Especially if the 49-19s look about the right size on you.
