  1. Glad you asked. I recently posted an article on that very subject on Suite101. There are 4-5 key considerations:

    1. Freshly Roasted Beans

    2. Good Tasting Fresh Cold Water

    3. Grind the Beans Immediately Before Brewing

    4. Brew Only as Much as You Will Consume Immediately

    5. Never Re-Use Coffee Grounds to Make More Coffee

Check out the article for details. I am a big believer in French Press, but you can also use a good drip machine following these guidelines.

  2. Well, the perfect pot is different for everyone, but this is what I do...

Start with fresh whole bean coffee from the store.  Don't grind it until it's ready to go in the basket.  Make sure your coffee pot (or press) is clean and doesn't have any residue.  Grind the beans immediately before brewing, and fill the chamber with filtered water.  Make it good and strong, if it's too strong, add some water once it's brewed.  Personally, I use unbleached filters, but that's a matter of preference.  The quality of the coffee and water will really show, and messing with any one of those factors will affect the taste adversely.

  3. you need a coffee pot and coffee grounds lol...thats about it, oh and water

  4. I like to use distilled water.

  5. You'll need a coffee brewer, fresh grain of coffee beans. If you prefer, buy a coffee grinder (find at Target, Walmart, Sears, etc) I gave one of my best friend a coffee grinder and a brewing cup that I bought at Cost Plus-World Market. It was affordable and he takes it to his work because he likes grinding his own coffee beans. Also the key, use drinking water instead of tap, the taste is a lot better and keeps your brewer a lot cleaner.
