What do optical illusions tell us about the way that we see?

  1. Optical Illusions merely show us that when the mind interprets the optical data sent to it, that it is capable of misinterpreting or altering that data.


  2. Our optical sensors pick up stimuli at a specific level of acuity and present that data to the sensory processors.

    However, there is much detail that these sensors are unable to pick out or discern.

    So, an illusionist can present optical stimuli at a rate or level which is not discernible to the naked eye and is thus missed.
