An owl butterfly laid an egg on my friend's mom's leg, and we took it home. I don't know what to feed it when it hatches... or what it needs to drink. Help?

  1. I doubt you have an owl butterfly.  There are no records of it in the USA.  However there is an owl moth.

  2. Butterflies feed mostly on nectar from flowers. Some also get nourishment from tree sap, pollen, rotting fruit, dung, and other substances that have dissolved in water, sand or dirt. Adult butterflies consume only liquids that they suck up by means of there Proboscis. They feed on flower nectar, but also sip water from damp patches. the are attracted to sodium in salt and sometimes even land on people, attracted by their sweat. Sodium is vital for butterflies reproduction along with several other minerals. To find these other minerals, Butterflies often visit dung, and rotting fruit.

So throw a peach or something like that in there and the little guy will be okay.
