I am traveling to Austria shortly and I would like to bring gifts to my family there. I was wondering what do Austrians like that only America has? Or what in general do foreigners like from the United States?

  1. I would consider very large bottles of Heinz ketsup. It is very expensive over there, and usually found in the homes of the wealthy. Sorta like caviar here.

I would also recommend a nice US Atlas, or a picture book of various US attractions.

A fifth of Jack Daniels is also recommended if the person drinks. (quite common for them to enjoy their spirits---I don't think you'll offend anyone (they are very responsible drinkers, btw))

Giving gifts that are nice doesn't mean they have to be expensive.

  2. Whiskey, Canadian Mist (a fun one because mist means c**p), Southern Comfort, bandannas, cowboy hats,  hand made articles, Photo Books of American Parks and landscapes, Music Cd's, touristy place matts, Microwave popcorn (Carmel corn), Pecans, Chocolate chips or other chips, Bakery specials from your area that can be served with coffee.  A special sugar spoon.  Weather vain.  Anything that can be added to a potted plant that is decorative.  Iron on repair patches.  American quilts or pillow covers.  Flashlights - led tripod key chain - Stanley. Dream catcher window decorations.  Magazines. Paint ball equipment. Frisbees, Football (have it deflated before flight or it might blow, take a needle to inflate), Measuring cup and spoons. Pop rocks candy.  Halloween decorations.  Tang, Instant cocoa w/ marshmallows, brownies, Colorless Koolaid.

Big Red gum, Trident.  M & M's in funky colors or those little mints that get served at weddings.  Candy corn.  Carmel Apple wraps.

  3. not much really - except for designer clothing!

  4. I have some friends from Austria, and they love Native American jewelry, pots, art.

Also, depending on where in the US you live, if you're in a big city, you can get them souvenirs. Most of them love the outdoors, so any souvenirs from National Parks would also be good.

But the souvenirs may not be "made" in America though :)

  5. Hard to tell, not much really these days. Bring a local specialty, or perhaps a coffe table picture book, or similar. I know it's no big help, but I really can't think of much.
