  1. Been 7 times and I've eaten a little bit of everything! I guess you mean typical local food. I love empanadas, sopaipillas (fried bread), all kinds of seafood (especially at the Mercado Central), fish is great especially Salmon and Congrio, poroto con riendas (beans with noodles) Chilean cuisine is nice and if you go there you will find a huge variety of food. The best sushi I've eaten in my life was in Santiago!

  2. We usually eat the same as western foods, pasta chcken rice etc, as we have supermarket etc. ;D  The guy above me has done a good job of mentioning the typical foods. He missed out my two favourites. Completos "hotdog" and Lomitos. jaja

  3. Let's see. Chile is quite cosmopolitan now and you can eat almost anything but traditionally:   We have a lot of sea coast therefore we eat lots of fish and seafood (Sushi becoming popular now). Try Fried or grilled Congrio, Merluza. Machas (razor clams) & Erizos (sea urchin, if you are brave). Grilled meats & steaks Asados or 'Parrilladas',  Empanadas (meat, sea food or cheese pies) .  Fresh pasta, Ravioles, Gnocchis (a big Italian influence). We eat lots of fresh bread, very little rice. Legumes, Porotos (beans).  AND DONT FORGET CHILEAN WINE! Pisco and beer the other popular drinks.

We have a big sweet tooth, many German bakeries, Italian type ice creams and drink English High tea at 5 or 6 o'clock.

I could go on with much more, but some things we DON'Tt eat: are spicy dishes (very few), Plantains or rice & beans.

  4. Asado, carbonada, puchero, sopa a la criolla, noquis, arroz con pollo, puchero de gallina, locro, empanada de humita are all native dishes from Chile.
