What do people get married?

my guy n i have known each other for over 5 years and we just hit our 3 year anniversay of BOYFRIEND/GIRLFRIEND. He doesnt think its a good idea to get married. We have a 6 monthsold baby girl together. kinda a plus to getting married concept. but he thinks of it as losing half your stuff and finacial all about money and what not. i say we make sure to get an annulment. so he keeps what he earned and i keep what i earn. he said if i can come up with plenty of reasons then we would. i told him b/c we love each other and he didnt reply i thought that b/c we love each and we had a kid that should be good enough as well. so can anyone help me out with this please...i just need reasons to give him. not any negative imput on why im with him. i love him he loves me. he just comes from a family that is full of divorse and seperation so hes afraid of it. i need to reassure him were different. please and thank you.

And if he loves you (and her) why is he afraid of sharing his stuff?

i would say to go to marriage counselling, not because there is anything wrong, but so maybe when everything is laid out and what no he may be more comfortable with getting married.

I know being married has brought me peace of mind. I feel like I am doing things the right way. Also for insurance purposes wouldn't he want to make you his legal family so you be covered under his insurance or vice versa if anything ever happened to you and you were not covered at the time? Also he is sharing a child with you so you would think he can share his stuff too.
