  1. nothing against wind power ,it would be great to have your own power so you don't have to pay some one else. it's so expensive to set up ,would be great to make your own?

  2. I run a blog on residential wind power, so I can tell you some of the hurdles people face when trying to get a small wind turbine up and running.  The barriers include cost ($6,000 - $22,000 upfront costs with an estimated 15 year payback period), noise, damage to homes when attached to your roof and community acceptance.  Innovations in the technology are slowly starting to address all of these issues, so I really think the haters will start to disappear.

  3. Generally, it creates noise pollution.  Not something you want to hear in a nice quiet neighborhood.  Solar panels are just as effecient, and don't make a sound.

  4. It is not effective enough to power the world and it takes too much space to set up all those windmills. It is also a danger to birds.

  5. Cost.

For the energy it produces, the cost is absurd.

In some places it makes sense, but in most places, it has about as much environmental value as a very expensive little green sticker on a new car.

If your town is on the market to increase its 'green rep', then it is a highly visible badge of 'green at any cost'.

  6. I have nothing against using wind power.  It can be used successfully in some situations.

  7. Liberal weenies don't like the looks of wind generators on hill tops.

  8. People don't, special interest groups do.  Environmental groups claim that wind generators will affect - the wind.  Altering the course of wind, clouds, thermal currents, bird migrations, wave patterns, rain fall, etc. etc.

Senator Ted Kennedy actually opposed a 'wind farm' off of Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts because he said that's where he sails!

WInd generators take up real estate, and wind farms take up a lot of real estate.  They can also generate excess electricity which can be sold back to Edison plants for a profit to the owners.

So while wind generators are a good idea, they can be an imposition to some special interest groups.  Otherwise the average American likes them.
