i make a cake, an ice cream cake, and have finger foods. like chips and dip, veggies and dip (pepper strips, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, broccoli), cheese and crackers, and soda/koolaid. makes it very easy to just leave it all on the table and have people get what they want. if you want to have more of a "lunch" then throw in some small rolls and lunchmeats for them to make their own sandwiches.

The cake is the star attraction obviously. Besides that, potato wafers are always a good bet. Mini vol-au-vents are a refreshing change. Barbequed anything disappears fast. And you can never forget chocolate chip cookies. Yum!

The first thing to do is come-up with a theme for your party. A child may like "Sponge Bob" for example. An adult may be an avid fisherman. Find a suitable theme and run with it. If "Speed Racer" is the theme, then little car cookies, finger sandwiches with an "S" on the bread etc.

In general, you want cookies, a cake, little assorted sandwiches, and "Kool Aid" always does the trick. Chex-Mix and little Pretzels are fun for adults, but are rarely eaten by Children. Keep it fun, keep it small, and have a good assortment.

finger foods - order pizza (you can get them at pizza hut for $5/each), bbq smokies, wings, dip, little sandwiches, cake, anything!! just make sure kiddos will like it too.
