What do people mean?

when they say 40s when they are talking about alchohol. 40 oz? of what? im lost

rot gut beer, bigger bottles of cheap beer that is only designed to get one a buzz or drunk, you might want to consider your other friends that don't use words such as this. in the long run it will be better for you health. if you don't understand what they are saying, maybe you shouldn't be hanging. be good to yourself and good luck.
