Question:

What do people mean when they talk about a decline of Middle America?

I remember when there used to be one America. Now it seems like America is made up of the sophisticated people who live in big cities and everybody else (who are basically considered rednecks by the sophisticated people).

When did this dichotomy all of a sudden appear in America? Why is it considered such an abomination now to live in medium-sized cities like Denver or Syracuse?

  1. No I disagree.  It's always been like that.  People have always been prejudice.  It all depends on who you talk to.  But historically, people in the big cities have always looked down upon those who lived in less populated areas.

  2. Well, I have lived in cities and moved back to the small rural setting. I don't care what the general public thinks. I have one life to live and I enjoy it right where I am at.

It did not suddenly appear...it has always been that way. As I get older I realize that a person has to do what makes them happy. Whether it is to be highly educated and distance yourself from your roots or carry on the roots.....it does not matter as long as YOU feel fulfillment in your life.

$100,000.00 or $1,000.00 salary I can make it and always have.

  3. society has always been divided into low, middle, and upper class

  4. I thought Denver would be on the other side of that equation... but this dichotomy has ramped up because of Bush (current Pres.) and his campaign strategy, specifically courting the redneck vote through his emphasis on religion and the Repubs using the g*y-marriage issue, or capitalizing on it, to bring the bigots out to the polls.
