Now don't get the wrong Idea about me asking this question. But I don't see whats so fascinating about a car going around in circles for 5 hours.

Second question, If we eliminated all motor sport from the US, how much fuel would we be saving?

  1. I know it's much easier to watch a bunch of guys that are playing a game with a ball..Motor sports are much more complicated and high tech..Just go play with your balls and try not to drool, and we'll stay here and enjoy our auto racing..

  2. Real cars, real fast, real fun!!!

  3. what i see in nascar is my buiness

been watching and going all my life

  4. For me, it's the cool uniforms they wear.  Not sure how much savings in fuel.  Maybe they should switch to souped up golf carts.

  5. This is a legitimate questions.  I think the one thing that makes a Nascar fan, is family tradition.  Some fans have had nascar passed down to them from years and years of family.  Other like myself developed a passion for it very early on.  That is the other key factor, passion!  If you have friends that are JR fans, and your a Jeff Gordon fan (not sure how familiar you are with nascar, but those are two of the biggest names) you watch just to have bragging rights... Much like a good college football rivalry, or NFL rivalry.

For someone that has not been around Nascar, it can be really hard to get into.  If you are from an area where nobody pays it any attention, it can be even harder to get into the sport.

Once you do get into the sport, it more than just cars driving around in circles... Its much more of a team effort, pit stops, strategy, trying to plan when to stop for gas in order to beat everyone to the finish.  Also now Nascar has teams with 3-4 cars, teams can work together in order to gain an advantage for everyone involved with the team.

I do understand your question, but I think passion plays the key role here.  Nascar fans are passionate.  The perfect example is... I watch about 3-4 hours of pre-race coverage, why??? Because I am passionate about it, I want to know everything I can about what the new developments are in the sport.

As far as saving gas... well there are plenty of ways we could save gas... For example, how many "Cell phone talking, soccer moms" do you see driving the biggest 8 seater SUV they can buy, by themselves with nobody else in the SUV with them?  There are lots of ways we could save on gas...

I hope this helps... if you ever get the chance to go to a race, go for it, you will become a fan...

  6. Well, Latrell.  I grew up in the heart of Nascar country and I too hated the sport for the first 25 years of my life.  But for some reason, I started watching and  was hooked, and big time.  Now I follow it religiously along with several other racing series.  I couldn't possibly try to explain why I like it.  I guess you get it or you don't.  I'm sure you have interests that would bore me to death.  We all do.  As far as fuel goes.  I've read the figures. Its a lot of fuel being used, but it is a tiny and insignificant amount relatively speaking.  And did youever think how much money is pumped into our economy because of Nascar and the millions who follow it and spend their earnings on it?

  7. I am no tree hugger, but then again why do I have to tell you why I like NASCAR?

Why do you like cross dressing?

  8. me either

    you can get that

    much action on

    the high way

  9. I love watching NASCAR. I like the personalities involved as well as the competition.

If you eliminated all motor sports, you wouldn't save as much fuel as you would by eliminating jobs. I spend more money in fuel getting to and from work than NASCAR uses in 5 years. Therefore, eliminating work would be the best way to save fuel.

  10. If you are excited by racing of any kind then NASCAR is great. If you don't enjoy racing then you will never enjoy NASCAR. I always tell people that to really understand what is happening on the track think of a time when you were exiting a freeway via a ramp and you suddenly realize you are going too fast and you hold on to the wheel wondering, "Am I gonna make this turn or not?!?!?!" That moment for you is similar to what the NASCAR driver experiences in each turn. Simply add 100 mph and 42 other cars doing the same thing at the same time and you will appreciate NASCAR a lot more!!

  11. Most people see [lol]

Heltons funky mustache,  Fans,   Haulers,   Pit crew members,   drivers,  owners

    and FAST CARS

  12. NASCAR racing is not as simple as driving around in circles. If it were so easy, don't you think the guys coming over from road racing would be doing much better? Try something one time and let me know if it got your heart pumping. Go to the cloverleaf of your local highway with 4 friends, each of you in your own car. Have one person 1 ft in front, others 1 ft from your door on each side, and the last, one foot from your rear bumper. Now go around said cloverleaf at 90mph keeping that formation without wrecking each other. As to why we love it? The cars run door to door, bumper to bumper, banging into each other, going 500 miles and finishing just thousandths of a second between the first two cars sometimes. The cars and drivers represent those of the working men and women of this nation. You can change the air pressure by one pound in one tire and significantly change the handling of the car. Unlike most other motorsports, banging into one another is a common event. Sometimes intentional. The personalities and rivalries in the sport make it highly charged amongst the drivers and fans. It is truly a family sport. Many drivers can be seen with their spouse, children, parents, aunts, uncles, etc. at the track just before starting the race. The stands are full of entire families. You can find 3 or 4 generations of a family involved in the race and the same is true of the fans. For the most part NASCAR is a big family. I went to a race by myself once and left afterwards with the contact info of over 10 other fans with whom I became friends. If you take the time to watch a few races with an open mind you may find it exciting also. But give it a fair chance. You will find that some races do get a bit dull in places. But name one sport that never hits a dull patch here and there. I know that you, Latrell, didn't bring this up but I'm going to address it anyways. Ya it's the sport of rednecks. These rednecks stretch from every border, north to south, east to west, in the US, Canada, Mexico, South America, etc. At the track you will see a steady parade of helicopters flying these rednecks to and from the track. These same rednecks and their driver's raise hundreds of millions of dollars for hundreds of charities helping countless people, animals, cities, and many other entities. What a black eye on society they are. So if you, Branewsk8guy, want to show your ignorance and intolerance by slamming us rednecks that's cool. Because many of us, our friends, and our family members died, were wounded, and are in harms way around the world right now so you could have the right to be an intolerant biggot. FYI. Redneck is defined as "A white, usually uneducated laborer from the south". I am white but none of the other 3 descriptors apply. Still, I am more than happy to be included in their ranks as they are certainly more intelligent and less ignorant than your answer would suggest of you. Thanks for asking a touchy question in a respectful manner Latrell. It isn't for everyone. But you never know. Give it a fair chance and you may be glad you did. Peace.

  13. its more fun driving in circles then watching and no nascar uses diffrent fuel for racing its a higher octane remember each team is run  as a  business so that business has a rite to buy fuel just like landscapers truckers airlines

  14. you say "now don't get the wrong idea about me asking this question, but..." what idea do you expect us to get from that question other than you don't like nascar but you do like wasting your time in an area where you don't want to be and where you are not wanted. tell me, did i get the right idea? THAT sounds pretty lame to me...

    ;-)

  15. Go to a race and see for yourself. There's a lot more to NASCAR than just cars making left turns for four hours.

Secondly, we actually wouldn't be saving any fuel because NASCAR uses a high octane gasoline that is actually available at some gas stations in the US and Indy cars and Champ cars use Methanol, which is something you wouldn't find at your local gas station. So even if NASCAR was elminated, racing fuel would still be produced for other reasons like it is now.

  16. Why do people like rap music is my question?  It is the same beat again and again, no melody or harmony.  To each is to his own. If you do not like nascar then get the fuc# out of this section!

For your second question; if you know math you can figure it out for your d**n self.

  17. They basicly like the speed that they go at when they are racing, I don't like it at all either!

  18. It's based on the automotive industry. The industry that shaped our country. The industry that revolutionized mass production in America. Didn't they teach you anything in school about the history of assembly lines. The automotive industry shaped our technological progression. I wonder what people see in football or baseball, besides a piece of leather with stitches in it.

  19. First and foremost.....if you think all races are just one big circle, obviously you've never watched a race at watkins glenn.

racing isnt just a sport. its a passion. its not just a guy in a car. there are teams of dedicated race lovers who LIVE for racing. NASCAR is like one big family. It's just the pride of the sport. Everything about it. Adreneline.  everything.

secondly, RACE CARS USE A HIGH OCTANE FUEL! it's not the same gas we use in our every day vehicle is not the same.

  20. most major sport you only have two team fighting and if there teams you don't like you still have to watch. nascar run the same team almost every week. and they battle in 3500 pound cars doing speed of up to 200 mph. what is there not to like. and for saving fuel that something that we will have to do as a country and shutting down motorsport any going to help. like one guy said a city uses more then all motorsports combined

  21. Once your as narrow-minded as you it's hard to tell you what people see. The sport is a lot more then just driving around in circles and it's important to notice that. I dare you to watch just one race and then see what you think.

  22. Can you drive with 42 other cars in close proximity to each other at speeds close to if not over 200 mph   and as far as your other ? not much fuel at all i think we need to find a way to regulate the cost of fuel before it arrives to the stations where we buy gas

  23. Try watching a race and you will be hooked. That's how I became a NASCAR fan. It's just the excitement of rooting for your favorite driver ever week and following the chase to the cup.

I used to think the same thing, then I watched one race completely through and I have been watching since.

  24. I dont know but I like them cars going round and round, it reminds me of certain parts of me and it is comforting. gas prices are insane and that is all I am gonna say about that.

    Hola

  25. I never thought I'd say this, but what GreenBean said.

  26. I guess the same reason people like watching 10 guys run up and down a basketball court dunking a ball into a hoop when most of them don't even have to jump (barely anyway)..........Unless you have been to a race and know all of the intricacies (you probably need to look this word up "Latrell") of the sport ,don't as they say "knock it unless you've tried it". As far as the wasting of gas, how many MILLIONS of people in this country jump in their car and take a ride when they really don't need too. If you don't like it, don't watch it.........there are MILLIONS of people who do "GET IT"..................

  27. I have been watching Nascar for about 13 years.   I think it is exciting.  SOme people just dont like it ,  maybe you are one of them

  28. They can't put it in you and they can't take it out of you. As for the gas, take races away and you lose millions upon millions of dollars that could have went into the tracks local economies.

  29. you may want to take off your sunglasses first.  I think thats your first of your many problems -----but your not worth my time nor nascar nations time.

  30. Watch a few races and see for yourself. One big city goes through more fuel  in a single day than most all motorsports do in a season. I read that somewhere not too long ago.

  31. don't get the wrong idea?? your question just brought out others who know nothing about NASCAR, luckily there are enough of the regulars here to clear up your misconceptions.  thank goodness for them, so thank you to eliot_ro, #18 #1 Fan, angel21b, lynn, wild bill, greenbean, 100%, go roush, heidi, gp, fluffy, scott, dew, gigi, empress, lenny...
