  1. I'm less knowledgeable than the previous answerer, but you asked what people think, so here goes.

Colonization generally involved the destruction of native cultures and exploitation of the local people, so in that sense, it disrupted the natural progress of Ghana's development.

However, colonization probably brought some degree of industrialization and higher education for a select few. Furthermore, since English has turned out to be the lingua franca of the world, I'll bet English-speaking Ghanaians enjoy an advantage over many of their neighbors in the new global economy.

The only other thing I know about Ghana is that one of our brightest African American leaders retired there, and accepted citizenship there: W.E.B. DuBois. One day, I hope to visit Ghana!

  2. I have no idea what about Ghana we should think other than it is another African country struggling to get on it's feet.  The colonization of Africa had it's bad effects of course, but depending on who was the colonizer makes the difference.  Britain would come in and build infrastructure in a way that made those countries today have a much better head start like Kenya and South Africa.  Others like Portugal seemed only to want to take and not give.

Much like the Americas have developed into prosperous countries if you can stay away from in-fighting and corruption so does Africa need to do.
