Question:

What do people think of people who have lost significant weight?

I have recently lost 65 pounds. The people I run in to that saw me before tell me how great I look.. almost incredulously. It has happened enough that I feel really self conscious about it. They must have thought I looked just gross before! But can you turn that around with weight loss? Or will I always be thought of as someone who was big? Thanks in advance for your honest opinions.

  1. Firstly, congratulations.  You should be really proud of yourself.

I too managed to lose 48lbs (not as much as you),  I know just what you mean.  I have had people say to me also that I look great now.  But how awful I looked before.  People often don't think before they speak so it often sounds very hurtful. Although I don't always think they mean it to sound like that.   I certainly think that once you have lost a considerable amount of weight people look at you as a different person. Although inside you are just the same).  It does not make you special just because you are now slimmer.  It's just that you look so different.

As time goes on people will just accept you as you are.  Thin or big.  The only important thing is that you as a person has to be happy with who you are.

The health benefits of weight loss are immense. Excess weight is bad for you.   You already now that besides making you look less than svelte in your bathing suit, being overweight is just plain unhealthy.

In short, the statistics are staggeringly in favour of achieving and maintaining your ideal weight if you want to live a long, healthy life. I know that my weight loss has, (apart from having to spend out on a new wardrobe of clothes).  Really, I have never, ever enjoyed buying clothes so much.

Anyway,  I think you have done amazingly to have lost all that weight.  Take good care of yourself and enjoy your new body and keep looking after it.

  2. just enjoy the fact that you have lost all that weight. think about it this way, at least you made an effort to lose that weight, instead of staying the way you were before, so just enjoy all the compliments your getting and well done. hope i helped

  3. you can still look good with some extra pounds, but there will of course be a huge difference when you drop that weight.

so you may have been cute before, but now you're hot?

  4. can you tell me how you lost that much wight? how long did it take?

  5. nah, when i see someone who's lost a significant amount of weight, i dont see them as an overweight or big person anymore. personally, i gain a respect for them knowing that they mustve worked their a**es off to get to where they are.

    congratulations on the weight loss.

  6. My first thought is: congratulations!!

I don't think you should worry about what they think or how they react. People with negative reactions can oftentimes be jealous. It's sad but some other people feel better about themselves when you don't look/feel your best. You won't always be thought of someone who was big unless you want to feel that way. The new people you meet in your life won't know that unless you tell them and don't need to know until you're comfortable with them. Like I said, congrats to you! I hope to join you soon =)
