What do people think of the AFL's drug policy?

I know this question was probably done to death 12 months ago, but I am looking for genuine answers, not just more pathetic attacks on the WCE. Do you agree with the 3 strikes rule? Do you think the club should be informed for each positive result? Do you think a life ban for positive drug tests as they do in some other sports? If the club is not informed until the third strike, should the club be sanctioned for teh players indiscretion?

Pretend for a moment that someone at your favourite club was outed as a drug user - what would your view on that person be (I know I know, all other clubs are perfect, but just pretend for a moment that it is possible that one or more of the other 600 odd afl players are falible human beings.......)

  1. I think the players health is never taken into account until its all to late and if it were my brother or friend in that situation getting his 1st strike I would be rope-able that 'officials' didn't let me know so I could be given the opportunity to help..

1st strike is a problem... not the 3rd..

    so..

1st strike is suspension with un-negotiable counselling..

2nd strike... sorry but you had your chance, indefinite suspension, go get your life figured out..

Sorry for haven such a harsh view and opinion but these are peoples lives and the lives of family and friends that are affected and it continues to be a problem long after the media turns their cameras onto someone else..

  2. Even though i don't agree with athletes of any type doing ANY sort of drug,i do think there should be a 3 strikes your out policy...

Yes of cause the club should be informed of ANY result positive or negative...

Yes i think a life time ban for drugs should be in force..

If the have 3 strikes against their name.no matter how good the player..There is no room in sports for Drugi's..

If a player i respected was 'bought' out as a drug taker of cause i would loose all respect i ever had for that player....

  3. I would like to see the AFL toughen up on it's drugs policy, because these players are lucky enough to be playing in an elite competition, and they should be responsible enough to know not to take drugs. Three strikes is too many, and I think that it should be reduced to two strikes, after recording positive drug tests.

  4. 3 strikes for non performance enhancing drugs

    for performance enhancing 1 chance

all clubs should be informed of positive tests

so they can keep things in line like player curfews

  5. I think the AFL's whole drug policy is pretty dismal.

If they do try & toughen up their policy the Players Association, with Brendan Gale & other militants, threaten strikes & all sorts of things. They'd be happy, it appears, that the clubs are never advised of anything involving players & drugs.

Ben Cousins was never tested as being positive at any stage of his playing career. He & the WCE admitted his involvement & the AFL suspended him for 12 months. What about the the Hawthorn club....plus other clubs & players? There is much of the AFL that is not played on an even field - & I am not referring to the grounds on which matches are played.
