What do people think of using light olive oil in baking cookies, instead of butter?

I want to bake more healthy, so tell me if this will taste ok, or if the dough will turn out "too soupy". Also, I know not to use any virgin olive oil, since then the cookies will get that nice olive flavor (yuck!). HELP! :0)

  1. I use Crisco, because I like softer cookies.  Butter and oil will make them spread more, and be crispier.  I wouldn't use ANY olive oil though, because I don't want the olive flavor.  If I use oil, I use vegetable oil.  We're talking about cookies here!  You only eat a couple at a time, so they don't have to be THAT healthy!

  2. Try apple sauce instead of oil

  3. I use Bertolli Extra Light Olive Oil and it is great for baking.  Your cookies will not be as rich as when you use butter but noone will notice as long as the cookies cooked with butter aren't sitting next to yours.

  4. using olive oil is healthier than butter, so thats why people sometimes use it instead of a stick of fattening butter.

The best olive oil to use, would be regular or LIGHT. you are right, extra virgin will just taste wrong.

but the regular or light will taste fine. and it wont be "too soupy" you melt butter right?

just try that. Fallow the same directions. So a tablespoon of butter, would be a tablespoon of olive oil!

    good luck!

    Hope I helped :)

  5. I would use just a tiny bit of butter along with the oil to enhance the flavor of your cookies. Apple sauce is really good substitute for fat in baked goods. Even though the texture of your baked goods will be different from a butter recipe, the taste will still be fabulous.
