  1. Mainly rice and veggies.

  2. Buddhists eat anything but meat. There's a Buddhist restaurant in the Chinatown at Ny. I remember that they had imitation meats and stuff.

  3. All kinds of vegis, fruits, breads and rices - tofu, etc.  NO meats or fish.

  4. There is no actual standard diet that Buddhists adhere to.

    Many Buddhists are vegetarians. However, my Tibetan Lama is not a vegetarian, nor are any of the monks who serve in his monastery. Rinpoche reminds us to use common sense and the middle way in all things, and tells us that we kill hundreds of thousands of tiny microorganisms each time we pull a carrot from the ground or walk down the sidewalk. Rinpoche loves pizza.

    I have read that the Dalai Lama eats a breakfast of tsampa every morning, which is a paste made by rolling barley in tea. Barley was a staple crop and food item where Tibetans used to call home.

    Be that as it may, there are Buddhists the world over, and as i am not acquainted with them, i cannot speak for their culinary preferences.

  5. * There is no real restriction about what to eat or what not to eat although we are to practise the middle way. Many of us here in Thailand do not eat beef but will eat pork instead but that is a preferance and not a strict law.

    Buddha said.- ".  Right Effort:

    •Foster good and prevent evil;

    •Work on yourself—be engaged in appropriate self-improvement. The essence of right effort is that everything must be done with a sense of proper balance that fits the situation. Effort should be properly balanced between trying too hard and not trying hard enough. For example, strike the balance between excessive fasting and over-indulgence in food. Trying hard to progress too rapidly gets poor results, as does not trying hard enough."

    * I follow Thai Buddhism which is based on the Theravada path. We certainly DO eat meats of many different types. Most of us here will eat fish, shellfish etc, pork, duck, chicken, eggs, fruits, vegitables, noodles, rice, for example.

    * During Buddhist Lent, many of us may decline to eat animal based foods for one week. (Foods that are sorced from the death of an animal or other living creature.) Many of us including myself refuse to eat Beef at all times.

  6. They eat vegetarian food. In Taiwan they have Buddhist buffet style restaurants with fantastic food... You pick up a paper tray and can get some of everything they have, which can amount to 20 or 30 different foods. when you have a full tray, you go to the register and put it on a scale where you pay by weight. a typical meal like that will run around $3. In addition you get a bowl of rice, cold tea or juice, and 'bottomless' bowl of soup.

    Some of their tofu is shaped [like a drumstick with a wooden stick for bone], and it tastes just like chicken or fish. You really get your money's worth, and it tastes great.

  7. well how many are there

    I Imagine they have a high vegetable diet,,, BUT it is $$$

    not religion

    I have no real idea..Rice and lots of soup

  8. There are many different types of Buddhism, but all the ones that I am personally familiar with have no dietary restrictions, except for maybe when they can eat, or eating in moderation.  I know most monks in Thailand eat whatever is given to them from the community as alms.  Also most Tibetan Buddhist monks I've met eat pretty much whatever, even cookies and other  junk food.  I'm sure theres particular forms of Buddhism that might be strict vegetarians, but basically there is no standard, universal Buddhist diet.
