Question:

What do pharmacy schools prefer?

Would it be beneficial for me to go 4 years and get my undergraduate degree in chemistry, and then go to pharmacy school, or should I try to go for 2 years of undergraduate study and then go to pharmacy school? Do pharmacy schools really look at whether or not you have an undergraduate degree? Does it make me more competitive to have a degree in the eyes of the admission officers at a pharmacy school?

Thanks for your time.

  1. Yes

  2. you should do a complete prepharmacy program at an undergrad school (usually 3-4 years) with the pre-reqs for the pharm schools you are interested in

  3. Yes it would beneficial for  to get an undergraduate degree. Yes, pharmacy schools really look at whether or not you have an undergraduate degree. and Yes, it is more admired and it would be a wise step for students applying to pharmacy school have a 4-year degree beforehand.

  4. As you can tell from the frequent questions that are asked on Yahoo, there is a gigantic interest in pharmacy right now. Everybody has an opinion, but to get RELIABLE information about pharmacy you should check the website of the AACP. That is the official national organization that coordinates info about all accredited US colleges of pharmacy. They have links to every accredited school and you can check out exactly what the schools in your state have to say.

Pharmacy is a great career, but it is not for everyone. You need to be a meticulous, responsible person who is good at math and chemistry and has a very good memory.

    Good luck.

  5. The pharmacy schools will take you either way if your grades and PCAT scores are good enough.

But I think the undergraduate degree is really better for you in the long run.  I know you want to get going with your career, but college is a blast and you can really broaden yourself a lot.  I think you're going to miss out if you do the abbreviated 3+2 schedule or whatever it is that the pharmacy schools offer these days.  And, if you get two years into it and find out that pharmacy is not really for you, then you'll be much better off in a regular degree program.
