What do photographers do?

I want to go to college for photography.,

But i dont know what i can do in everyday life with a job with photography?

other then take pictures like at peters photography and stuff.

what are some jobs that photographers do?

and how much do they get paid.?

Wow, where to start? There are hundreds of different kinds of photographers. I cover sporting events. People doing this can either do it on assignment or free lance. I do the latter. If a publication uses any of my shots, I get paid and that varies according to where it's used (cover or feature article for example). I also put photos on a photo site that people can order from. I don't get rich at it, but it lets me go where I want and when...and I don't have to pay to get in to races and games!

You can do something similar with many types of magazines; get on staff and go on assigned jobs or go free lance and submit and hope.

Then there are studio jobs of different sorts, the advertising field, selling images to companies like greeting card and calender printers, and many others.

You can also sell stock photos online, you can start doing that without a degree, i think that would only earn you pocket money though, thats all it earns me

Most photographers are self employed.  There is the portrait studio - the real money is in having your own.  There are weddings, pet portraits, school pictures, family portraits, baby pictures, there is also product photography, where you could be asked to photograph almost any thing from a hammer to a diamond ring.  There is fashion and glamor photography, photographing models wearing the latest in high fashion.  There is also Boudoir photography where a wife wants to surprise her husband with tastefully done but provocative photos.  There is also landscape and nature photography where the images could be used for anything from a post card to a text book illustration.  Or there is photojournalism where you are on staff for a newspaper and cover anything from fast breaking to news, a bank robbery or 20 car pile up on the interstate, to a ribbon cutting to getting a grip and grin with the mayor and the person that just donated a million dollars to renovate a park.
