In general, wild pigeons and doves eat seeds, berries, fruits, green leaves and shoots, and insects.

Most of those that are commonly kept in captivity are of the subfamily "Columbinae" and are typically seed eaters.  Those of the subfamily "Treroninae" are more fruit eaters and aren't kept as much in captivity, perhaps because it's more difficult to feed them properly.

Just about anything! Pigeons are not fussy eaters. They have only 37 taste buds, while people have 9,000.
