  1. trying too stay awake, hopefully :)

  2. They have to monitor the instruments to ensure that everything is running smoothly and that they remain on the proper course. They also have to monitor radio transmissions and monitor the fuel consumption to ensure that they are not burning it faster than planned and getting outside of their safety margins.

The workload is lower during a long cruise, but they still have to keep working.

On very long flights, there will be some time off outside of the cockpit. Airlines are required to carry relief pilots on very long flights, so a relief pilot will take over for part of the flight.

  3. Coffee, coffee ,coffee & coffeeeeeeeee

  4. play "Shoots & Ladders" :-)

  5. Whatever they enjoy doing to relax while keeping eyes an ears open for messages from the autopilot.
