  1. Shucks, there are still airplanes out there without electrical systems and they can still operate out of nearly 92% of the airports in the US without any problem.

  2. Weather radar isn't needed.  Just change your route to avoid thunderstorm clouds.  Neither are headseats needed.  Use the hand microphones and overhead speakers.  You don't have a comunications failure, so don't squawk 7600.  And you don't have any loss of navigation capability, so what's the emergency?

  3. Look out the window. Like in the olden days.

  4. I lost radio and radar after sustaining  incoming fire.  I had a copilot and all we did was watch the alltitude, compass, (all gauges that worked) & grabbed a map. We knew our bearings and made it back, no problem.

  5. If all navigation instruments were lost the pilot would switch from instrument flight rules (IFR) to visual flight rules (VFR). No major consequence unless the weather was very bad.

  6. this situation happen very rare even that happen they can put special SSR

now a days most of pilot carrying there GPS with them

    that helps

  7. besided soiling themselves????....im not a pilot but wouldnt you try to navigate like you would with some of those smaller 2 person planes...horizon and such...im not sure about taking chances with depending on that though....i would be afraid of crashing into another plane.....all else fails....suck down the oxygen masks and have the flight attendant bring you a cocktail......lol!

  8. ...put their heads between their knees, and kiss their *** goodbye?

  9. Ladies and Gentlemen, We are about to crash, Please say you last prayer and meet/greet anyone in the very last moments of your life.

There is customer service card in your front seat pocket, please fill in the required information and your comments, about how comfortable this flight was, and how can we improve more in future.

On behalf of my cabin crew and my co-pilots, we wish you a safe flight to the h**l... have a good crash.....

  10. Y'a know, I have more than 500 hours of flight time as a private pilot, and I have NEVER needed radar or a headset to fly an airplane.  I'm sure commercial pilots with many more hours of flight time than I have really don't need them either!

The obvious response is FLY THE AIRPLANE!

  11. they set the SQUAWK 7600 then they proceed via their flight planned route to the destination as precise to the scheduled time of arrival as possible, and land safely. the ATC would provide them with enough separation and occasionally with the shephard aircraft ot bring them home just in case they would lose their nav euipment as well.

radar is about priority 5, and the headset priority 6, where

    1 is artificial attitude indicators

    2 airspeed altitude and VSI

    3 fuel calculations

    4 positioning

    3+4 are the navigation

first then is 5 avoiding the bad weather /the only thing the radar is usefull to airliner

    6 radiology

...edit... well I personally I am flying in a helmet, and without the helmet /if it accidentally fell out of the window/, I'd be pretty f*d up and solving the radio contact loss. obviously the airliners are not using the headphones nor helmets, but finally i think we all agree that the head set is not that critical even if the only link to the ground.so, do not tear me to pieces please.

  12. In a civillian airplane this means no communication and weather information. The scenario is not that grave as most of the other answerers have depicted. There is nothing stopping the aircraft from flying normally and landing.

Maybe an experienced pilot can describe how ATC messaging is done when there is a communication failure.

  13. The examples you give: "radar" and "headsets" are not critical, or even important to flight.  One airplane in 500 is equipped with radar, and if it is present it is not flight-critical.  And headsets are not critical, as there are usually several sets, and also loudspeakers and microphones.

There are many components of an airplane that can cause trouble if inoperative.  All pilots are trained in the proper backup procedures for operating without a long list of devices that might fail.  In real life, though, such failures are quite rare.
