  1. absoloutely nothing

  2. When you are trying to help others thru your answers ,then you are supposed to get something for your try,so there is that pointing system, points are to motivate you to answer questions as best as you can,yes ,it's true that there is no such system for award and monetary prizes for for high point holder but in the positive frame of mind prizes and awards are not all. There are factors in life than monetary gain and benefits as honour,respect.pride,self-sati... and mental pleasure and happiness among helping others thru your knowledge and info as far as you can. So points are of course important to me, as it has made me an advanced and premier user/member in the community.

To encourage participation and reward great answers, Yahoo! Answers has a system of points and levels. The number of points you get depends on the specific action you take. While you can't use points to buy or redeem anything, they do allow everyone to recognize how active and helpful you've been. (And they give you another excuse to brag to your friends.)

As i have told earlier, points promote participation. They allow you to ask, answer, vote even more! To be able to brag some. Last December, we did get stuff if we signed up, depending on our levels, like coffee mugs, sweaters, hats. And this link is where you sign up:

http://better.yahoo.com/answers/register... right now to get free CFL lights and get a “bag” if you reach Level 2 by June 13.

    Check this link: http://answers.yahoo.com/info/scoring_sy...

for all the information about scoring, points and levels. You can return to that page by clicking the blue # link next to your points or level by your avatar. Also:

    http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/answers

which is the blue HELP link at the top right of this page has a lot of answers and instructions for you.

You gain points for answering questions, and you loose points for asking questions.

You get 2 points for each answer you give, and a bonus of 10 points if your answer is chosen as 'Best Answer'! It costs 5 points to ask a question, but you can earn back 3 points if you choose a best answer for your question, so it is a net loss of only 2 points.

You can also get points by voting on undecided questions. Click on 'Answer' above, and then click on the 'Voting' tab. This will show you the unresolved questions. You can vote for a best answer in these questions - you get one point per vote!

You also get a bonus point for every thumbs up you recieve on your best answers (up to 50 per best answer). When you get to level 2 you can give thumbs up too!

You can see the Scoring System information page here:

    http://answers.yahoo.com/info/scoring_sy...

Or by clicking on your number of points at any time.

The points also let us compete a little bit!
