What do poor people deserve in the US?

Do they deserve opportunity to learn exciting new things or just to maintain their poor lifestyles? Should they just be content in having enough to eat, a few clothes, a Section 8 or homeless shelter roof over their heads, healthcare on waiting lists and mass transit if they have that?

  1. It depends on why you are poor.

  2. Equal treatment.

  3. They deserve an opportunity to get rich by their own efforts -- just like anybody else.

  4. Everyone deserves equal opportunities.

  5. Education, health care, dental care, enough food/drink, shelter.  But. they deserve these things if they ware working and/or are disabled.  If they are not working and are not disabled, they deserve nothing.

  6. They deserve whatever the work hard to get. They deserve to have low taxes so that they can accumulate wealth quicker. They deserve to have an equal footing when it comes to the standards of education, it is a wide spread epidemic that poor people have terrible education systems when compared to people in wealthier school districts. They deserve to have their government help them succeed, rather than hold them back by maintaining government dependency through social welfare. They deserve to be compensated based on their skills and their efforts, just like everyone else.

  7. Poor people deserve an equal opportunity to get a quality education.  They deserve teachers who care and a school system dedicated to their learning.  They deserve better than the present state of most inner city schools.

Poor people deserve not to be discriminated against because of their background, race, or accent.  They deserve the opportunity to succeed on their own merits.

Whether they deserve more that what you mentioned depends on whether they're working for it.  If they've never put forth any effort to become educated, gain useful skills, or even apply for a job, then they don't deserve more than what you mentioned.  However, if they do decide to improve their own lot, they should have some access to education, even if it's just loans.  If they want anything more, then they should work for it.  But if they have worked hard all their lives and happened upon unfortunate circumstances, then I would say that they do deserve more than that.  The problem is determining who belongs in which group, since there is a lot of overlap.

  8. They deserve decent rich friends.

Then they should return the favor.

Otherwise they deserve the chance to democratically redistribute wealth.  Vote for a wealth tax.

  9. I 'd hate that way of of life, that is not a life.

Living like an animal from one day to next , just worrying head to lay your head down and somewhere to sleep.

Where to find to eat, can't enjoy.

  10. They deserve police and fire protection that everyone else has.  They deserve the same rights and justice that everyone else has.  They deserve the same public education opportunities that everyone else has.

In the case of mental illness, they deserve treatment.

Other than that, they don't deserve anything extra just because they are poor.  Poor are poor for a reason, and it's up to them to figure out what that reason is and correct it.  There is no excuse for poverty in America, but it's not the job of government or non-poor to fix it.

  11. You might not have experienced poverty or learning.

The US needs leaders in all academic areas.  Contentment should be linked to food, clothes, shelter, healthcare or transportation and academic progress.

Being in a state of povery does not necessarily eliminate the ability to learn or contentment.  However, it may cause jealousy, frustration, anger, and crime.

  12. unless you know what its like to be poor, you shouldn't assume they should just be content. they deserve what their actions lend. many people are born into poverty and are never presented a good opportunity to get out of it. Ive been dirt poor. lived in peoples basements, with walls made of boxes and sheets hung from the ceiling. we had no running water, we had to borrow the neighbors. I was in a situation i didnt have any control over. eventually i got out. but i feel like maybe i should have had an opportunity for better. alot of people arent like me. they wont be able to figure out the way out. does that mean they dont deserve it?
