  1. Yeah a whole system, from the headers all the way the the muffler(s), that is better than stock = performance.  If you just upgrade one part, it will not function to it's potental, but a big f**t can on the back will make it "sound" cool

  2. it's a system that provideds more free flow for the exhaust as to lessen the back pressure on the engine, plus they usually sound good.

  3. if your looking for that i'd get the flowmaster full exhaust kit with edelbrock or shorty headers

  4. Just depends on what your looking for. Do you want horsepower gains or just a nice sound?

If you just want a nice sound then you can bolt on a catback exhaust system and get a nice noise with a little gain in performance. A catback is an exhaust that attaches behind the catalytic converter, leaving the forward portions of the stock exhaust and the converter.

You could also simply replace the muffler with a strait glass pack style muffler. This would be your cheapest option if you just want sound.

If your wanting to get the best performance gains however you need to replace the manifold(s), the Y pipe and the cat converter.

  5. Kit would include header pipes, free flow (less restrictive muffler, and bigger exhaust pipes to the tail.  Personally, I don't think it worth investing the money.  If you want performance sound, just replace the muffler to free flow type exhaust and replace the air filter with K&N will not put a big dent on your wallet.

  6. A performance (aka cat-back) exhaust kit replaces your stock restrictive muffler with a higher flowing muffler. The mufflers are designed to increase air flow from your engine. This reduces back pressure and in turn gives you more power. And as a side effect of being less restrictive makes your vehicle louder and gives it a "racy rumble" sound. Although the sound will vary depending on the kind of engine. A 4 cylinder engine will sound much higher pitched and raspy, whereas a v8 will have a much deeper rumble. A few companies that make cat-back exhausts are Flowmaster, Magnaflow, Borla, and Dynomax. Although a word of advice, if you get one, spend the money on a good cat-back system, not a cheap f**t can muffler from Walmart or Pep Boys. They sound like c**p and don't help with performance.
