Question:

What do prenials mums look like in spring/summer when not in bloom? How do you know if it is a prenial ?

  1. I live in the mid west. The plants looks like a small bush. I cut mine back in June so they will bloom in the fall. You don't have to do this. I just want the blooms in the fall for color. I leave mine to winter over so the seed will fall and the plant will grow bigger come spring then I cut them back, and you'll see new muns growing and spreading.


  2. Living in the South, all my mums are perennial. They look like little bushes when not in bloom. I have also cut them back in the winter, and new growth starts at the base of the plant.

    They can get really big, I have seen some here that are 2 feet tall.


  3. Perineal mums are called " garden mums" and in the spring/summer they are just green in color. Dont over water them as they are prone to root rot. In the spring trim them back hard. They will then take off slowly.
