Question:

What do "Exit Only" signs on the expressway mean?

Does it mean that if you're in that lane that you have to exit? Because sometimes there will be a two-lane exit and both lanes CAN exit but one lane actually can veer off the expressway OR stay on the expressway, but both lanes will be YELLOW and say "Exit Only." That confuses me.

  1. It sounds like you got the answers you need I just wanted to comment on  you,WOW you are Hot!!!!

  2. Thats the lane you use when you want to get off the hi-way, but watch out for stupid people that use it for passing.

  3. the lane furthest to the right has to exit when there are two lanes for an exit, the lane to the left can either exit or stay on expressway...the exit only sign is for the right lane only...

  4. Try getting the lane with the exit only sign and see where it takes you. I'm sure that once you are on the off ramp the answer will be obvious. One thing it doesn't mean is "passing lane for the impatient or stupid".

  5. If you have two lanes that can exit the right side will need to exit without a doubt but the second one in some states will have the option to either exit or go straight....

  6. if you are in a lane with a sign above you that says " exit only " that lane leaves the freeway.

there is usually a difference in the white lines.

they will either get wider, or no longer be dashed lines, depending upon your state.

  7. it means EXIT ONLY

  8. It means exit only so if not exiting move to the left if no 1 is there> When going down the expressway in the right lane & you see an exit sign move to the left or you will get stuck exiting>
