What do root lifters do to the hair?

I know, it "lifts your roots", but can you provide pictures of what it does? Or just tell me how it would look on the hair?

it gives more volume to the root of your hair so it's not just going right down with it flat, it will have a little puff

obviosly it lifts the roots but for some ppl when they part their hair down the middle the roots kind of sink and stick to the scalp the root lifter makes it so it looks natural with some volume by the roots...
