  1. The Russians eat pretty much the same food as other Eastern Europeans, and Europeans in general, do. There aren't any considerable differences here.

Some traditional Russian dishes that are still popular are:

    1. Pelmeni (dumplings) - minced meat in a thin dough.

    2. Blini (pancakes) - large, but thin pancakes, pretty rich in fat.

    3. Kholodets - jelly with meat in it.

    4. Pirozhki (buns) - buns with meat, potato, cabbage, mushroom, etc. stuffing.

    5. Ukha - a fish dish, sort of a soup with lots of fish and potato.

    6. Borsch - a largely vegatable soup, distinctly red due to beetroot, often eaten with fat sour ("Smetana").

    7. Shchi - a cabbage soup, usually has meat in it. Eaten with Smetana as well.

    8. Salat Olivie - a salad composed of diced vegetables and sometimes meats bound in mayonnaise.

    9. Caviar - red and black types are rather popular on holidays.

  2. They eat a lot of meats and vegis - barbequed meats are the favorite, fried potatoes with onions are a hit, soups - pretty much any type of soup.  They like eggs scrambled with onions and tomatoes.

Cheese, bread.  Also, answer number one gives some great specific meals.
