I have watched a money spider climb three feet back up its anchor line . What do spiders do with all this excess web? they can't stuff it back where it came from, wouldn't have thought it would be poss to just gather it up to re-use as it would stick together and they couldn't eat it, so ...???????????

  1. They do eat it!

  2. Believe it or not they eat it... when all the flies full into it the spider will eat the whole web...

  3. Eat it.

  4. eat it then poo it out...i think...lol...

  5. It depends on the species of spider and what the web was used for in the first place.  They can either abandon it and leave it, or they will sometimes eat it and recycle the protein.  The webbing they swath over their prey as they tie it up is usually abandon after the prey's fluids are eaten.  The swaths of webbing used to build their egg cases are left abandon also, after the babies hatch.  There are some species of Orb Weaver Spiders that, after ripping down the old web and eating all the filaments, spin a new web every single night.

  6. As above, they eat it. Nature abhors waste, and an object lesson to us in recycling.

  7. They do indeed eat it. It's a good way to conserve protein in which the silk is made from.

  8. Spiders eat their old and damaged web threads as often as each day. They spin new webs so that they can more efficiently catch their meals.
