  1. Work? We enjoy being finally able to escape the classroom.

And unfortunately the meetings and planning for next years classes, interrupt this some times.

Mostly we would like to holiday as much as you do... :D

  2. We usually have a relaxing break - to get over the last term. In Australia, our summer vacation is at Christmas time. So we madly get ready for the festive season. After we recover from the festivities, we usually sit on the beach and just veg out. Then, the last week or two is spent going into school or working from home to prepare for the new year's class. There's lessons to plan, program and prepare. Classrooms to be set up and meetings with colleagues.

  3. Just the same as every other person does during their holidays. Spends time with friends and family - afterall, most have their own children they have to look after in holidays.

Some do extra jobs on the side for cash if they really want to work. Some work in day care centres, it really depends on the individual and their particular interests and hobbies.

  4. As a glutton for punishment, I teach Summer School! lol Supporting a family of five on a teacher's salary is tough. I really enjoy teaching and my students. Summer school is a good choice because it's only half days, the pay is decent and I still get some time off. However, the few weeks before and after I work around the house and spend time with my wife and kids.

  5. summer school! it works well as you will be paid for the summer school work and if you arranged your pay to go all year instead of just sept-june you will get a double pay

  6. Work some more and take some time out to recover from the year so you can last through the next one!

  7. Alot start working on next year, if they are changing grades or schools. Some have jobs on the side that just get more attention during the summer. But more over, they are just like you. Vacation.

  8. So many things...

    teach summer school,

take courses towards their masters or recertification,

    wait tables,

    visit family,

    run camps,

    travel,

    become beach bums,

    sleep late,

    read good books, and

    chill!

  9. I've taught for 23 years, and all my summers have been a little different.  So let me tell you what has happened this summer:

    1.  Went to two graduation parties.

    2.  Went to Yellowstone for a week with my family (we usually have a nice vacation each summer).

    3.  Took my sons to summer camp (an all-day drive).

    4.  Took my sons to our city swimming center 2-3 times weekly, on average.

    5.  Took the family to see a movie.

    6.  Tutored three students every other weekday.

    7.  Taught at the community college (algebra) for two summer sessions.

    8.  Took my sons to the orthodontists, dentists and doctor.   I try to do their physicals, check-ups, etc. during the summer.

    9.  Celebrated my birthday with my family... taught my sons how to grill... had a nice meal.

    10.  Made some necessary repairs around the house.

    11.  Primed and painted our deck outside.  (Hot job!)

    12.  Met with some contractors on doing some work around the exterior of our home.

    13.  Attended two seminars to meet my continuing education requirements for my certification.

    14.  Had repairs done to automobiles; maintenance, too.

    15.  Prepared all meals for my children... we don't eat out much and I like to cook.

    16.  Did the typical household chores... laundry, dusting, etc.  I can't vacuum due to allergies, so my wife (who is not a teacher and works during the summers) does that.  She also handles the yardwork due to my allergies.

  10. I'm a teacher, so I'll give you a breakdown of what I've been doing this summer.  I taught summer school in June, I went to the beach a few weeks ago, and I've been doing some lesson plans.  I also have been working on my book that I pretty much only have time to work on when I'm not in school.

Additionally, my school requires lots of teacher inservice (training and learning sessions), so I've also been doing that.

Most of all, I've enjoyed relaxing, sleeping in late, and just hanging out.
