The 9ers seem to be a long way from being a winning team.  If you're talking about 9-7, they can find a journeyman QB, and some average-to-slightly-better-than-average WRs, and the defense is strong enough to get there.  If you're talking about becoming a playoff team, they've really got to improve on offense, and on the defensive line.  They need a franchise QB, and some quality WRs.  Both lines need to be upgraded with at least one near Pro Bowl caliber player on each side.  It's going to take them a while, but the experts say missing on a QB with the #1 overall pick, like they did with Alex Smith, can set you back 10 years.

The quick fix?  Get a pass rusher.  That defense is a pass rusher away from being an outstanding defense.

Keep an offensive line together a while.  Even mediocre OL's given time as a unit can become outstanding as a unit.

Also add a young WR with great potential.  I always imagine how much better off that team would have been had they taken Braylon Edwards instead of Alex Smith in that draft.
