What do the absolute value bars mean?

You can equate it to distances. Like if you drive between points A and B the distance is x miles. Even if you drive it from point B to point A, the distance is still the same number. So Absolute Value is like distance. It has nothing to do with negative or positive numbers in the answer. The number should still be positive.

It is a bit more complicated than this (the number should just be positive) but too much to explain here.
