Question:

What do the british do with their "retarded " population? (Autistic, Down Syndrome, CP, MS, etc)?

I know "retarded" is not a PC term. sorry. Anyway. ....I work with the Mentally handicapped in NY and i was wondering if they are treated the same in England/Europe. are there work facilities, Day Habilitation sites, or group homes?

    We have special schools for children and support groups

  3. Most people would have got the general gist of your question, with out the derogatory term "retarded" being used.

    In Australia we have many types of programs for the disabled people.

    Residential homes, Assisted living programs, Independent living.

    Day programs and services - which offer a variety of activities, including independent living skills, recreational & social programs etc.

    Early intervention programs and support services.

    Respite and Home care support services - aids and support families dealing with a disabled member.

    Transport services - transports people to work, school, appointments etc, who are unable to drive for themselves.

    Educational & training programs.

    Sports and recreational programs.

    Business services - previously called Sheltered work shops, provides employment for those with disability a safe environment, with out prejudice or victimization etc.

    There is heaps more services that support the disabled people, but the above are the main services used.
